Transvestites tested for HIV

Transvestites tested for HIV

BEKASI, West Java (JP): The Bekasi regency has had 250
prisoners and 350 prostitutes and transvestites tested for the
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) as part of its efforts to curb
the spread of the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS).

Regency spokesman Dahlan Suherman said yesterday the blood
test results would be completed within the next three months. A
medical laboratory in Bandung, West Java, is examining the blood.

The regency is curious to know whether HIV has spread in
Bekasi because two years ago a prostitute thought to be suffering
from AIDS escaped testing. (12/sur)
