Transportation under control

JAKARTA (JP): Head of the transportation control department of the City Land Transportation Control Agency, Herman Tonglolangi, said yesterday that transportation during the Christmas and New Year holidays was under control.

"Every day, during the holiday season, there was an average of 2,500 buses leaving the city's bus terminals," he said.

"Out of the 100 additional buses prepared by the office, only 26 were deployed to accommodate passengers who could not be transported by the regular buses," Herman explained.

Herman also said that people who arrived at the city's five inter-city bus terminals in Jakarta last Monday reached 133,141 and 103,649 left the city.

"That was the largest number of people returning to the city from their vacations," he said.

In total, he said, during the period between Dec. 18 and Jan. 2, over 1.44 million people arrived in the city using 42,017 buses and 1.38 million left Jakarta in 39,470 buses.

Herman said that the office's monitoring was held at the Pulogadung, Kampung Rambutan, Rawamangun, Kalideres, Tanjung Priok and Muara Angke bus terminals. (yns)
