Transport Official Who Removed Road Barrier at HI Roundabout Said to Be Performing Duties
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Jakarta Transport Department (Dishub) official who went viral on social media for removing a road barrier to cross the Hotel Indonesia (HI) Roundabout area in Central Jakarta was performing his duties.
“The official was indeed carrying out his duties,” said Head of the Traffic and Road Transport Operations Control Division (Dalops LLAJ) of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Transport Department, Yayat Sudrajat, when confirmed by Kompas.com via short message on Monday (11/5/2026).
He explained that at the time of the incident, the official was conducting a traffic survey as part of preparations for a specific event or activity.
“This includes the placement of traffic facilities and infrastructure such as traffic cones and MCB (concrete road barriers) as well as the deployment of officers in the field. It also involves preparing traffic engineering plans and vehicle flow diversions,” Yayat clarified.
He added that during the on-site traffic survey, certain actions sometimes need to be taken to support the smooth execution of duties.
“Sometimes there are consequences that we must face for the optimal performance of field tasks,” Yayat emphasised.
Yayat also confirmed that the vehicle used in the viral video was an operational service vehicle (KDO) of Dishub DKI Jakarta.
Previously, a video showing a man, allegedly a Dishub DKI Jakarta official, removing a road barrier to directly pass through the HI Roundabout area in Central Jakarta, went viral on social media.
In the video uploaded by the Instagram account @jakartapusat.info, a man is initially seen getting out of the passenger seat of a red-plated car. A large DKI Jakarta Province sticker is visible on the rear window of the car.
He then moved one side of the road barrier by hand to open a path so that the car he was in could turn right.
However, the road barrier was installed to direct vehicle flow to the left side.
After the path was opened, the car, allegedly driven by his colleague, immediately passed to the right side.
The man then returned the road barrier to its original position before getting back into the car. The vehicle then proceeded.
On the left side of the car’s body, a blue-white pattern resembling the operational vehicles of Dishub DKI Jakarta was visible.
