Transport observer urges Jakarta administration to evaluate all pedestrian bridges

Transport observer Darmaningtyas has proposed that the Jakarta Provincial Government, through its Bina Marga agency, conduct a thorough evaluation of all pedestrian bridges (JPO) in the capital to ensure the facilities are fit for purpose and safe. According to Darmaningtyas, objectively many JPOs in Jakarta are overdue for revitalisation because their age and condition no longer meet the community’s mobility needs. “Indeed, objectively many JPOs in Jakarta must be revitalised. Try going to the Kramat Jati JPO, Pasar Kramat Jati, or the JPO on the west side of Lenteng Agung. I think those JPOs are too old and too narrow, so they are not suitable for current mobility,” Darmaningtyas said when contacted on Thursday. He assessed that this situation needs to be addressed immediately through a comprehensive evaluation of all existing JPOs in Jakarta. The results of the evaluation can serve as a basis for determining which JPOs are still viable and which must be revitalised or replaced. He reminded the Jakarta administration not to wait for an incident causing casualties before taking steps to improve the pedestrian infrastructure.
