Transport Ministry Urged to Issue Technical Rules After 8% Ride-Hailing Commission

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal has urged the Ministry of Transport to immediately issue technical regulations following the implementation of the 8% ride-hailing commission, to ensure the policy does not harm drivers. Cucun stated that the 8% commission policy is a commitment agreed upon by the government, the House, and platform companies. However, he noted that in practice, some platform operators have reduced trip fares, resulting in lower earnings for drivers. “Because the operators have lowered the fares, driver income has ultimately decreased. The ones benefiting are the customers or consumers,” he said at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Thursday. He explained that the 8% commission came into effect on 1 July 2026. Under this scheme, platform operators receive an 8% commission, while 92% of the trip fare belongs to the driver. He stressed that the implementation of this policy needs to be regulated in greater detail to prevent differing interpretations in the field. He also requested that Commission V of the House oversee the policy’s implementation to avoid practices detrimental to drivers. Previously, Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi stated that the regulation of the 8% commission is currently prioritised for motorcycle ride-hailing services, as they have the largest number of users and driver partners.
