Transport Ministry strengthens aviation safety through ICAO training
The Ministry of Transport (Kemenhub) is strengthening aviation safety oversight through an International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Government Safety Inspector training programme, attended by 16 inspectors from six Asia-Pacific countries including Indonesia.
“This activity is the result of collaboration between Kemenhub, ICAO, and the US FAA-Boeing in order to strengthen aviation safety oversight capacity in the Asia-Pacific region,” said I Gusti Agung Ayu Mas Oka, Head of Education at the Centre for Air Transport Human Resources Development (PPSDMPU) of Kemenhub, in a confirmed statement in Jakarta on Sunday.
The second batch of the ICAO Government Safety Inspector (GSI) Operations-Air Operator Certification training in Tangerang, Banten, was attended by 16 aviation inspectors from six countries: Indonesia, Vietnam, Nepal, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and Papua New Guinea.
The training, held at PPSDMPU, aims to improve the technical competence of civil aviation authority inspectors in carrying out air operator certification and flight operations oversight in accordance with ICAO international safety standards.
She expressed hope that the knowledge and best practices gained during the training can be applied effectively in each participant’s organisation to achieve a safer air transport operational oversight system.
In addition to providing competency-based technical instruction, the training also includes practical exercises, evaluations, and case studies. The activity is also part of efforts to develop regional aviation instructors.
Director of Airworthiness and Aircraft Operations (DKPPU) at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation of Kemenhub, Sokhib Al Rokhman, emphasised that strengthening aviation human resource capacity must be continued through the application of competencies in the field.
According to him, the presence of participants from various Asia-Pacific countries demonstrates the importance of regional cooperation in aviation safety oversight.
The training is followed by an On-the-Job Training (OJT) phase to build a competent regional instructor group, so that effective and sustainable safety oversight can continue to be strengthened in the Asia-Pacific region.
Through this training, Kemenhub continues to strengthen international cooperation in developing aviation human resource competencies while improving the quality of aviation safety oversight at both national and regional levels.
“This international synergy is expected to continue to support the creation of safe, secure, and internationally standardised aviation,” said Sokhib.
