Transport Ministry Prioritises Safety Programmes and Mass Transit Development in 2027

Jakarta (ANTARA) — The Directorate General of Land Transport at the Ministry of Transportation has prioritised several strategic programmes for 2027, including safety and security measures as well as the development of Mass Public Transport Systems (SAUM) in two cities.

“Safety and security are essential aspects of transport services. This is a budget allocation priority, realised through structured efforts to guarantee the safety and security of land transport,” said Director General of Land Transport Aan Suhanan during a hearing with Commission V of the House of Representatives at the Parliament complex in Jakarta on Monday.

Aan further stated that the Directorate General of Land Transport has prepared national priority programmes under the 2027 Government Work Plan (RKP).

For land transport safety and security programmes, the ministry has budgeted Rp414.61 billion, which will be used, among other things, to support Zero ODOL services; the procurement and installation of road equipment; road equipment maintenance; and the handling of accident-prone locations.

Furthermore, Rp1.55 trillion has been budgeted for SAUM development in Medan and Bandung.

“These activities are major projects under the 2020-2024 and 2025-2029 National Medium-Term Development Plans (RPJMN), with funding supported by the World Bank,” he said.

In addition, the Directorate General has prioritised 624 pioneering services with a budget of Rp224.09 billion; four urban transport services worth Rp35.1 billion; and continued infrastructure development at three locations budgeted at Rp101.9 billion.

Aan added that the ministry has also allocated Rp11.97 billion for post-disaster rehabilitation in Aceh and West Sumatra; Rp339 billion for payments towards the AP Proving Ground in Bekasi; and Rp5 billion to support creative financing through public-private partnership (PPP) schemes.

Meanwhile, Aan noted that of the total budget requirement of Rp10.22 trillion, the directorate has only received an indicative ceiling of Rp4.31 trillion, or around 42 percent of its needs.

“The Directorate General of Land Transport’s budget requirement for 2027 stands at Rp10.22 trillion. Meanwhile, the indicative ceiling we received is Rp4.31 trillion, or 42.18 percent of our needs, leaving a budget gap of Rp5.91 trillion,” he said.

As a result, he said the directorate has submitted a request for additional funding to the Ministry of Finance so that national land transport programmes and services can run effectively.

“We have also submitted mandatory budget requirements of Rp2.702 trillion that have yet to be accommodated to the Minister of Finance (Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa), so that services to the public can continue to run optimally,” Aan said.
