The Ministry of Transportation is supporting the acceleration of national port transformation through the Green and Smart Port Initiatives (GSPI) ASRI (Aman, Sehat, Resik dan Indah) to increase logistics efficiency, smooth food distribution and reduce supply chain costs. “We fully support this, because it shows a new image that ports are ASRI (Safe, Healthy, Clean and Beautiful) places,” said Director General of Sea Transportation Muhammad Masyhud in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday. The Directorate General of Sea Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation affirmed its commitment to supporting the acceleration of national port transformation through the GSPI ASRI programme, organised by the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs together with state-owned PT IDSurvey. This strategic step is taken to strengthen ports as crucial distribution nodes in maintaining the smooth flow of food between regions, reducing logistics costs, increasing supply chain efficiency, and maintaining the stability of national food supply and prices. Carrying the theme “Green Today, Smart Tomorrow, Food Security Forever,” the programme aims to encourage ports in Indonesia to implement best practices in environmental management, operational efficiency and service digitalisation. “On the other hand, the involvement of the Directorate General of Sea Transportation as an assessor also aims to encourage port operators to meet the green and smart indicators at the ports they manage,” Masyhud added. The activity is part of an assessment process that not only refers to compliance with international and national regulations in the port sector but also encourages the implementation of higher standards (beyond compliance). Deputy for Trade System and Food Distribution Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Food, Tatang Yuliono, stressed that port transformation is a fundamental part of strengthening the national logistics ecosystem. Similarly, Chief Operating Officer of PT IDSurvey David Sidjabat said that GSPI is a manifestation of IDSurvey’s commitment to supporting the national transformation agenda through sustainability-oriented certification. The Green and Smart Port Initiative ASRI is a form of appreciation given to ports that have undergone the Green and Smart Port assessment process and demonstrated a commitment to implementing sustainability and digitalisation principles in the port sector. The programme is organised by the Coordinating Ministry for Food together with IDSurvey to encourage the creation of more ASRI ports, while supporting the strengthening of the national logistics system, sustainable development and Indonesia’s food security. Moreover, it not only gives appreciation to ports that have transformed, but also serves as a benchmark for other ports to continue improving their sustainability and digitalisation performance in Indonesia.
