Transport Minister: WFA Effectively Reduces Eid Return Traffic Flow
Bekasi (ANTARA) - Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi stated that the flexible work policy of work from anywhere (WFA) effectively suppressed vehicle density during the 2026 Eid homecoming and return traffic.
Dudy conveyed that the policy succeeded in lowering the projection of returning vehicles at the peak of the return flow.
“If we look at the return flow, we initially predicted 285,000 which became 250,000, and there was also a decrease in crossing traffic, so I see there is effectiveness,” said Dudy after inspecting the Jasamarga Tollroad Command Center in Bekasi, West Java, on Wednesday.
The Ministry of Transport recorded that public transport movements during the Eid period from H-8 to H+3 increased by 4.07%, with the number of passenger departures rising 11.11% compared to the same period last year.
In addition, the government noted that the peak return flow on Tuesday (24/3) reached 256,338 vehicles in one day, higher than last year’s Eid period of 223,163 vehicles.
Not only WFA, he also assessed that the toll fare discount policy could potentially impact the distribution of vehicle flow so as not to concentrate at certain times.
Thus, he continued, the government urges the public to take advantage of the policy to avoid density at the peak return flow estimated to occur on 28-29 March 2026.
“We hope the public can utilise the Work From Anywhere policy as well as the toll fare discounts applied on the 26th and 27th at 30%,” he said.
Dudy assured that the government continues to evaluate the implementation of Eid transport to improve service quality in future periods.
Furthermore, he urged the public to schedule their return travel times to avoid piling up on the last days of the Eid holiday.
He emphasised that the government is not complacent even though this year’s homecoming and return implementation ran relatively well.
“We must not be complacent. So every year we always conduct evaluations, and every year we must improve services,” Dudy stressed.
