The government is encouraging improvements in driver partner welfare through close collaboration between the government and industry players. Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi has expressed support for Gojek’s programme to send 70 Legend Driver Partners on umrah pilgrimage to the Holy Land as a form of appreciation and an effort to improve driver welfare.

Speaking at a Maulid Nabi commemoration with Gojek driver partners and the symbolic send-off of 70 Gojek Legend Drivers in Jakarta on Friday evening, the minister said the government encourages improvements in driver partner welfare through close collaboration between the government and industry players. He therefore appreciated Gojek’s efforts to continue delivering tangible programmes to improve driver welfare through various initiatives that provide direct benefits for them and their families.

The minister encouraged the app company’s initiatives to inspire more parties to deliver similar programmes that provide real benefits for improving driver welfare across Indonesia and strengthening partnerships. He expressed hope that such initiatives would inspire more parties to deliver similar programmes providing tangible benefits for driver welfare.

GoTo President Director and CEO Hans Patuwo said the departure of 70 Legend Driver Partners on 2 September 2026 is a form of appreciation for their significant contribution in building, maintaining and growing the company since its inception. Hans explained that Legend Driver Partners are drivers who joined between 2010 and 2014, before Gojek had an app, and who have remained active serving customers for around fifteen years with high dedication.

According to Hans, the umrah departure is a form of recognition for Legend Driver Partners who have faithfully supported Gojek’s journey, while also appreciating their long service in serving the community and developing the company. He said they are the ones who built, maintained and grew Gojek, enabling the company to exist today, noting that some have been active for 15 years and are still driving.

Gojek Head of Driver Operations Bambang Adi Wirawan added that the umrah programme for 70 Legend Driver Partners represents the highest form of appreciation for their dedication in building Gojek since its inception. Bambang emphasised that the opportunity to receive umrah is also open to all partners through the Partner Appreciation Programme, which provides recognition based on consistency, performance and contribution during their partnership with Gojek.

He explained that the Partner Appreciation Programme includes monthly, annual, five-yearly and ten-yearly awards with various benefits such as incentives, BPJS Kesehatan, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan and Swadaya Points. He added that partners who are able to maintain the Champion Partner title for ten consecutive years have the opportunity to receive an umrah gift as recognition for their loyalty and sustained performance.

In addition, Gojek provides Rumah Mitra as a free facility for resting, charging mobile phones, gathering, holding community activities and religious events, which can be used by all partners free of charge.

One Legend Driver Partner, Bambang, expressed gratitude and thanks to the app company’s management for the opportunity to perform umrah, which he will soon undertake as a form of appreciation for his service. He admitted he never imagined being able to go to Baitullah through the programme and considered the recognition from Gojek a valuable experience as well as motivation to continue working as a partner.

Another Gojek Legend Driver Partner, Mariono, said he was grateful for the opportunity to perform umrah, which he said was an answer to years of prayers and hopes. Mariono often waives passenger fares every Friday as a form of charity. He said many customers often prayed that he would one day be able to perform umrah.

According to him, those prayers from passengers have now been answered after Gojek gave him the opportunity to go to the Holy Land as recognition for his dedication. The 50-year-old admitted he was nearly moved to tears because he never imagined being able to set foot in Baitullah, given that the dream had long felt very difficult to realise. He said that at 50 years old, even dreaming of going there was difficult, but thanks to Gojek and its appreciation, he is now able to go.
