Transport Minister (Menhub) Dudy Purwagandhi has stated that he will conduct an evaluation following the train incident at Bekasi Timur Station. Dudy mentioned that one key area of focus is the construction of the double-double track (DDT) Manggarai-Cikarang line.

“Yes, of course, as part of our evaluation, the DDT, including electrification, is already included in our assessment of train services, particularly KRL,” Dudy said at Bekasi Timur Station, West Java, on Tuesday (28/4/2026).

The previous Transport Minister, Budi Karya Sumadi, had stated that the overall progress of the DDT Package A Phase I Manggarai-Cikarang project had reached 98%. The project includes the construction of Jatinegara, Matraman, and Manggarai stations, as well as the western side new elevated track from Manggarai to Jatinegara and Bukit Duri to Cikini.

Budi hoped that the DDT Manggarai-Jatinegara would facilitate greater mobility for residents in the Jabodetabek area by increasing the capacity of train movements on the Bekasi and Bogor lines.

“With the DDT, it will certainly provide many benefits, such as separating long-distance/main line train journeys from KRL/commuter lines, reducing train delays, improving the local economy, and most importantly, enhancing the safety, comfort, and security of train travel,” Budi said in March 2021.

Budi added that the Ministry of Transport, through the Directorate General of Railways, continues to work hard to complete various national railway infrastructure projects that require substantial budget allocations. This includes building railway infrastructure such as tracks, station buildings, signalling systems, civil works (foundations, bridges around tracks and stations, etc.), and funding for track maintenance.

“I thank President Joko Widodo and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani for allocating approximately Rp10-17 trillion annually for railway projects. For the DDT Manggarai-Cikarang construction alone, the cost exceeds Rp5 trillion,” Budi said.

Additionally, the government is emphasising the importance of installing level crossing gates at at-grade crossings. Dudy noted that this was also a concern raised by President Prabowo Subianto during his visit to accident victims.

“Yes, earlier, the President, while visiting Bekasi General Hospital to see some of the accident victims, also expressed his concerns about these at-grade crossing gates, and insyaallah, in the future, we will soon realise the installation of gates at at-grade crossings,” Dudy said.
