Transport Minister says the KRL struck by Argo Bromo Anggrek in East Bekasi halted due to crowds

JAKARTA: Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi revealed that the KRL Commuterline train struck by the Argo Bromo Anggrek at Bekasi Timur Station on Monday night (27 April 2026) halted because of a crowd of residents. He said the crowd formed after a taxi cab broke down on the JPL 85 level crossing and the Cikarang-Jakarta service was involved. ‘A crowd formed as residents saw the location of the accident or the incident,’ Dudy told MPs in a working meeting with Commission V of the House of Representatives, while presenting an illustrated video chronology of the accident on Thursday (21 May 2026). ‘The train had departed, but stopped because of the crowd gathered in front to observe the incident,’ he added. Not long after the KRL stopped, the Argo Bromo Anggrek Express crossed Bekasi Station at 20:51 WIB, three minutes ahead of schedule, at a speed of 108 kilometres per hour. ‘The impact occurred at 20:52,’ Dudy said. Subsequently, Sawunggalih 116B arrived at 20:35 WIB, five minutes late, and departed again at 20:37 WIB. ‘Sawunggalih crossed Bekasi Timur Station at 20:39,’ he said. A few minutes later, a taxi stalled on the JPL 85 level crossing. At 20:48 WIB, the 5181B train on the Cikarang-Jakarta route passed and collided with the vehicle. Meanwhile, KRL 5568A, eight minutes late, was dispatched from Bekasi Station at 20:45 WIB and arrived at Bekasi Timur at 20:49 WIB, with a nine-minute delay. It was this KRL that was held and could not depart Bekasi Timur and was ultimately struck by the Argo Bromo Anggrek.
