Transport Minister reveals that the KRL briefly halted due to a crowd before being struck by Argo Bromo Anggrek

The Transport Minister outlined the sequence of events at a working meeting with Commission V of the House of Representatives (DPR) at the DPR RI complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday, 21 May 2026. He explained that initially there was an incident involving KA 5181B on the Cikarang-Jakarta route and a green taxi that stalled on the tracks around 20:48 WIB. ‘A taxi stalled on the tracks. KA 5181B Cikarang-Jakarta passed at 20:48 and then collided with the taxi,’ said Dudy while presenting the chronology of the accident. At that time, a crowd gathered to witness the incident. Around 20:49 WIB, KRL 5568A, eight minutes late from the scheduled time, arrived at Bekasi Station. ‘There was a crowd where residents saw the location of the incident, or the collision. KA 5568A was eight minutes late, scheduled to depart at 20:45. At 20:49, KRL Jakarta-Cikarang 5568A arrived at Bekasi Timur Station,’ he said. Dudy explained that at that time KRL 5568A honked to depart quickly, but the train was hindered by the crowd. ‘There is a KRL behind, sir, the KA KRL 5568A arriving at 20:49 at Bekasi Timur already nine minutes late. The train did depart, but halted due to the crowd in front to view the incident,’ he added. Next, the Argo Bromo Anggrek train passed Bekasi Station at around 20:51 WIB. The train, according to Dudy, arrived three minutes earlier than scheduled at a speed of 108 km/h. At 20:52 WIB, the Argo Bromo train struck the KRL 5568A that had been held up by the crowd. ‘Subsequently, the Argo Bromo train crossed Bekasi Station at 20:51, three minutes early from schedule, at 108 km/h. The impact occurred at 20:52,’ Dudy added. Dudy emphasised that his side would wait for the KNKT’s investigation results into the railway accident and would support the KNKT’s independent operation. ‘The Ministry of Transportation respects the ongoing investigation by the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) and supports its execution in an independent, professional, and transparent manner,’ he said.
