Transport Minister Responds to Pertamax Price Hike to Rp 16,250 per Litre

Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi has commented on the impact of the fuel price increase on the transportation sector, particularly the rise in the price of Pertamax (RON 92).

He stated that the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) and Pertamina had already performed calculations before raising the fuel price, although he could not yet detail the impact. "We will calculate it again. But certainly, when the ESDM Ministry raised Pertamax, the impact was already calculated," Dudy told reporters at the Presidential Palace Complex on Thursday (11/6/2026).

ESDM Ministry spokesperson Dwi Anggia previously explained that the pricing mechanism for non-subsidised fuel differs from that of subsidised fuel. She noted that non-subsidised products follow market price movements, so when global oil prices increase, a price adjustment becomes difficult to avoid.

"When we talk about non-subsidised fuel like Pertamax, its price mechanism is indeed released to the market. So when the oil price rises, inevitably there is an adjustment," Anggia said at the ESDM Ministry on Thursday.

She further mentioned that the components forming the fuel price are not only influenced by the price of crude oil or the fuel product itself. Several other determining factors include distribution costs, storage costs, taxes, and various other cost components.

"But what is most important is that the directive from President Prabowo to Mr Bahlil is clear: the most vulnerable groups, the poor, who are the most affected and who predominantly use subsidised fuel, these are the ones who must be protected," she said.
