Transport Minister Reiterates Three-Axle Trucks Must Cease Operations During Mudik Period
Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi has reiterated the prohibition on operational three-axle trucks during the 2026 Lebaran mudik period to maintain traffic flow and safety. The heavy vehicle restriction policy forms part of a broader strategy to control the mudik traffic flow implemented in coordination with Korlantas Polri (National Traffic Police), toll road operators, and other stakeholders.
“On this occasion, I would like to once again, perhaps for several days now, appeal to entrepreneurs and companies operating three-axle and heavier trucks to temporarily cease their operations in accordance with the prescribed restrictions, in order to maintain traffic flow and safety for our fellow citizens undertaking their mudik journey,” said the Transport Minister at the Korlantas Polri Command Centre in Cikampek on Wednesday (18 March 2026).
He stated that compliance with the Joint Decision Letter (SKB) is essential for the effectiveness of traffic flow management and reducing accident risk. The Government expects transport operators to adhere to the agreed regulations.
National Traffic Police Commander General Agus Suryonugroho explained that traffic engineering measures are implemented in stages according to the dynamics of traffic volume detected in the field. A one-way system for certain segments was implemented in the first phase after spikes in vehicle volume were detected at various points.
“Regarding accident incidents, we report that to date there has been a 15.5 per cent reduction in accident incidents. In terms of fatality of victims, there has been a 38.9 per cent decrease,” said Agus.
