Transport Minister Prepares 5 Java-Sumatra Ferry Routes for Lebaran 2026, Urges Operators to Ensure Readiness
Jakarta — The Ministry of Transport, in cooperation with relevant stakeholders, has prepared five sea crossing routes to facilitate Java-Sumatra transit during the Lebaran 2026 holiday transport period.
Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi disclosed that the five sea crossing routes are: Merak Port to Bakauheni Port; Ciwandan Port to PT Wijaya Karya Beton Port; Ciwandan Port to Bakauheni Port; BBJ Bojonegoro Port to BBJ Muara Pilu; and PT Krakatau Bandar Samudera Port to Panjang Port.
"With these arrangements, we hope to serve the public well. We have already requested BBJ Port to prepare 12 ship units to transport large vehicles, and Ciwandan Port has also prepared 12 ship units to carry passengers making the crossing," Dudy said in Bandarlampung, Lampung, on Tuesday, 17 February 2026.
He urged all operators to prepare services in line with those delivered during previous peak periods, namely the Christmas and New Year period and previous Lebaran transport seasons.
Dudy explained that to improve the flow of homebound travellers during the Lebaran 2026 transport period, a holding system would also be implemented at Bakauheni Port, spread across 10 points along toll roads and arterial roads in the surrounding area.
"We are preparing to support full readiness so that crossings run smoothly. BBJ Bojonegara Port will serve large trucks in categories VIII and IX, Bakauheni Port has been prepared without vehicle diversion, and Krakatau Bandar Samudera Port has been prepared as a contingency measure," he added.
