Transport Minister Predicts Peak Exodus Traffic for Motorcycles at Ciwandan Port on 18-19 March
Cilegon (ANTARA) — Indonesia’s Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi has predicted that the peak Lebaran exodus for motorcycles at Ciwandan Port in Cilegon, Banten, will occur on 18-19 March.
“According to our forecast, the peak is today, 18 March. We expect congestion to continue until 19 March,” said Minister Purwagandhi during a direct inspection of the exodus traffic flow at Ciwandan Port on Wednesday morning.
The Transport Minister clarified that the congestion in question does not represent traffic gridlock that would halt vehicle movement, but rather refers to increased volume and influx of two-wheeled vehicles in the port area.
He noted that approximately 27,000 vehicles were recorded on the day of inspection, representing a three per cent increase compared to the corresponding period in the previous year.
“Two-wheeled vehicle operators can be swiftly loaded onto ferries without any accumulation or congestion. Those departing from Bekasi, Depok, and surrounding areas can reach Ciwandan smoothly,” he stated.
According to Purwagandhi, the smooth traffic flow demonstrates that this year’s exodus management scheme is functioning optimally thanks to coordination among various parties, including the National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri), Banten Regional Police (Polda Banten), PT Pelindo as the port operator, and PT ASDP, which provides ferry services.
Concluding his inspection, the Transport Minister urged motorcycle riders to prioritise road safety above all else.
