Garut — Indonesia’s Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi has predicted that the peak of the 2026 Eid exodus will occur on 18 March 2026, and the government has prepared various anticipatory measures to reduce potential traffic congestion during this period.

“The peak of the exodus is estimated to occur on the 18th (of March),” said the Transport Minister during an official visit to oversee compensation distribution for delman (horse cart) drivers at Garut Police Station, Garut District, West Java, on Saturday.

One effort to maintain smooth, safe and orderly traffic flow, according to him, involves the government implementing a “work from anywhere” (WFA) policy that can help distribute the departure times of homebound travellers so they do not concentrate on a single day.

“With the implementation of WFA, ‘work from anywhere’ is expected to be distributed across the preceding dates,” he said.

He stated that the government has also prepared various facilities and infrastructure to support smooth vehicle traffic flow during the exodus season. These preparations, he continued, include not only personnel readiness but also transport route preparedness through constant inter-agency coordination involving all parties involved in traffic security and management.

“Thus far, God willing, things are proceeding well, and adequate provisions have been made,” he said.

He appealed to homebound travellers to first plan their journeys carefully, such as by considering travel time, weather conditions, and exodus route information through the various media available.

“We hope that travellers will be able to plan their journeys properly, always trying to obtain information from various media channels,” he said.
