Transport Minister Predicts 285,000 Vehicles Heading to Jakarta at Peak of Return Flow Today
Transport Minister (Menhub) Dudy Purwagandhi predicts that 285,000 vehicles will head to Jakarta and its surroundings today. Today is predicted to be the peak of the return flow.
“We can report that as mentioned earlier by the National Police Chief, today it is likely that the return will occur—apologies—with an estimated number of vehicles at 285,000,” said Dudy after the flag-off event for the national one-way scheme at GT Kalikangkung, Central Java, on Tuesday (24/3/2026).
This number will be higher than during the outbound flow on 18 March, which reached 270,000 vehicles. To anticipate density, an open-close scheme is being implemented at rest areas.
“There are several rest areas subject to open-close operations, namely Rest Area 62B and 52B. This is done on an open-close basis in the hope that congestion will not occur, considering that during the outbound return flow yesterday there were 270,000, and we could see that density occurred,” he stated.
The Transport Minister also explained the work-from-anywhere (WFA) option for the public. This is so that the public does not return at the same time today.
“The National Police Chief also reminded earlier that we have WFA, work from anywhere, which can be utilised by the public to plan their journeys so that not everyone is on the road today. So they can travel on other days,” he said.
