Transport Minister Opens Investment Opportunities to Accelerate Railway Network Development
Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi has affirmed that the government is open to investment opportunities for the development of the national railway network, particularly to support logistics transport through the development of lines in Sumatra and Kalimantan. “If there are other countries interested, we are very happy and open,” the Minister said after the launch of the Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement Hub system in Jakarta on Monday. Dudy stated that the government is opening the widest possible opportunities for both domestic and foreign investors in the development of the national railway network to strengthen logistics connectivity and support economic growth in various regions of Indonesia. According to him, the development of railway lines is directed at routes that provide economic benefits while supporting regional development, so discussions are being held with the Ministry of National Development Planning. Dudy explained that the determination of routes considers the economic potential of the region, transport needs, and support for regional development so that the investment provides optimal benefits for the community and business players. Regarding the possibility of a railway line connecting to Nusantara Capital City, Dudy stated that the government is still conducting a study and cannot yet confirm which routes will be developed in the next phase. “We will see later,” he said. Meanwhile, regarding investment requirements, his party is also unable to calculate them yet as they depend on the length of the line, the type of train used, the characteristics of the route, and various other technical aspects that the government is still reviewing.
