Transport Minister: Lebaran Return Traffic Mobility Rises, Travellers Urged to Stay Alert
JAKARTA - Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi stated that the public needs to be wary of the high mobility in the Lebaran return traffic for 2026, which is already showing an increase.
The rise in return traffic is reflected in data from the Daily Lebaran Transport Post on H+2 (23 March 2026).
The number of public transport passenger departures reached 1,448,306 people, an increase of 12.37% compared to the same period last year, which was 1,288,869 people.
Of that number, the land sector recorded 242,875 passengers, consisting of 230,401 bus passengers and 12,474 travel passengers, an increase of 19.29% compared to the same period last year.
“The high movement of people during the return traffic period must be addressed with good preparedness. I invite all travellers to choose travel times wisely, ensure that their physical condition and vehicles are in prime condition. Safety is far more important than speed in reaching the destination,” said Dudy in his official statement on Tuesday (24/3/2026).
Furthermore, Dudy reminded travellers to avoid times predicted to be the peak of Lebaran return traffic, namely 24, 28, and 29 March 2026.
Dudy also urged the public to maximise the work from anywhere (WFA) time provided by the government, aimed at reducing traffic density during the Lebaran return traffic in 2026.
On 24 March 2026, the estimated Lebaran return traffic heading back to Jakarta is expected to reach 285,000 vehicles. Therefore, national one-way traffic engineering is also being implemented from Km 414 Semarang to Km 70 Cikampek.
“The volume of vehicles heading towards Jakarta shows a significant increase. The implementation of national one-way traffic engineering is expected to facilitate the public in returning to their home cities,” he said.
