Bandarlampung (ANTARA) — Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi has said that nationwide travel movement during the Lebaran 2026 holiday period is likely to exceed survey projections.

“The forecast for public movement during the Lebaran 2026 period stands at 143.9 million people, representing a decline of approximately 1.75 per cent compared to the 2025 figure of 146.4 million,” the minister said in Bandarlampung on Tuesday.

He noted that actual Lebaran 2026 travel volumes could well surpass the survey figures, given that in 2025 the realised number of travellers reached 154.6 million.

“Looking at last year’s survey results, we must be prepared, as there is a possibility that actual numbers will be higher or approach last year’s figures,” he said.

The minister explained that public mobility towards Lampung province must also be anticipated, even though it does not rank among the top five favourite destination provinces nationally. However, Lampung is a favourite destination for residents of the Greater Jakarta area (Jabodetabek).

“Lampung is among the top five favourite destinations for the Jabodetabek area, with an estimated 778,670 people expected to travel there. It appears that many Lampung natives reside in the Jabodetabek area, so this too needs to be anticipated, particularly at Bakauheni Port,” he said.

According to the minister, although Lampung province is not among the top favourite destinations nationally, authorities must still prepare for increased movement from other regions, as Lampung serves as the gateway to Sumatra island.

“This forms the basis for all of us to prepare the Lebaran 2026 transport operations optimally and to the fullest extent, particularly in high-mobility areas such as Lampung province,” he added.
