Minister Ensures Eid Travel Stimulus Won’t Harm Airlines: ‘It’s a Government Policy’

Jakarta, VIVA – Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi has assured that the economic stimulus policy during the Eid travel period will not harm airlines, as the stimulus has already taken into account the interests of the industry.

He affirmed that the various incentives provided to the public during this period are a government policy and not a burden that airlines have to bear.

“The important thing is that this policy is a government policy. We are not disrupting airlines,” Dudy said in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Dudy explained that the government has designed a scheme that will not disrupt the sustainability of the aviation business.

The stimulus provided to airlines includes tax relief and adjustments to several operational cost components, such as airport services and aviation fuel (avtur).

With this scheme, the cost burden is not placed on airlines but is supported through fiscal policy and government support. This step is taken to maintain a balance between the interests of the public, who need affordable tickets during the Eid homecoming, and the sustainability of the national aviation industry.

“So, the government is providing tax relief, as well as covering costs for handling at the airport and avtur. All of this is the stimulus provided by the government, not by the airlines,” he added.

The government is preparing a 100 per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) subsidy for the purchase of plane tickets during the 2026 Eid homecoming period.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, explained that the size of the stimulus will be larger than the stimulus during Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026, when the government only covered 6 per cent of the VAT and the rest was paid by consumers. Currently, the government is still drafting the stimulus regulations through a Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK). Airlangga said the regulation is targeted to be completed on Monday (9 February).

In addition to plane tickets, the government is also preparing various discount programs for transportation tickets and toll road tariffs to support public mobility during the Ramadan holiday and Eid al-Fitr 1447 H period.

This policy includes discounts on plane, train, sea, and land transportation tickets, as well as toll road tariffs. The cross-modal discount policy was previously implemented during the 2025-2026 Christmas and New Year period. (Ant)
