Transport Minister Emphasises Disaster Mitigation for Eid Homecoming
The Minister of Transport Dudy Purwagandhi has emphasised that all stakeholders, both at national and local levels, should prioritise disaster mitigation measures in preparation for the Eid homecoming surge in 2026, taking into account adverse weather conditions affecting several regions of Indonesia.
“We have already prepared all transportation modes for the 2026 Eid homecoming, but we are also placing particular emphasis on weather-related matters. Weather conditions have been unfavourable recently, and we expect all parties, both national and local authorities, to prepare mitigation steps,” Dudy said in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) on Saturday.
The Transport Minister, accompanied by NTB Governor Lalu Muhamad Iqbal, held a coordination meeting to prepare for the 2026 Eid homecoming transportation involving the Provincial Government, regencies and cities, as well as other stakeholders in NTB.
He stated that these mitigation steps are important to be implemented early in order to support the smooth flow of traffic and prevent disruptions during this year’s Eid homecoming surge.
Despite the challenges posed by adverse weather conditions during this year’s homecoming, he noted that transportation preparations via land, sea, and air are ready.
“I can see that everything is prepared, including what the NTB Provincial Government has done in making good preparations to provide safety and security for homecomers,” Dudy emphasised.
The NTB Governor said that they have coordinated with the Transport Minister to review preparations for land, sea and air transportation. In accordance with the directive, one week before Eid, any road repairs must be completed. “Therefore, we will accelerate efforts to support the smooth homecoming,” he added.
