Jakarta (ANTARA) - Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi stated that the realisation of transport movements during Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah/2026 CE reached 147.55 million people across Indonesia using various modes of transport during that period.

“For travel during Eid, the number of people travelling amounted to 147.55 million, an increase of 2.53 percent from the survey we conducted of 143.92 million people,” said the Transport Minister after the Closing of the Integrated Eid Transport Command Post 2026/1447 Hijriah at the Ministry of Transport Office in Jakarta on Monday.

He explained that the increase in the realisation of movements reached around 2.53 percent from the survey results, reflecting the high mobility of the public travelling during the Eid period this year in 2026.

The survey was previously conducted by the Ministry of Transport together with the Bandung Institute of Technology Affiliated Research and Industry Institute (LAPI ITB), the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), and the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) to map the potential movements of the public.

In its implementation, the survey involved around 55,000 respondents from various regions in Indonesia to obtain representative data on public travel patterns ahead of Eid al-Fitr this year.

The survey results indicated that 143.92 million people had the potential to travel, but the on-the-ground realisation showed a higher figure than the initial projection.

According to the Transport Minister, the difference between the survey results and the realisation was influenced by various factors and public considerations in deciding to travel during the Eid period.

The various factors will be further evaluated by the Ministry of Transport to better understand the dynamics of public behaviour in travelling during future Eid periods.

Nevertheless, the Transport Minister continued, the government had previously anticipated the surge in movements with various policies and strengthening of transport services to maintain the smooth flow of Eid homecoming and return trips.

He stated that the organisation of this year’s Eid transport generally ran well without any significant disruptions affecting public mobility during that period.

In addition, the accident rate during the Eid period also experienced a decline, indicating an improvement in safety aspects in the organisation of national transport during that momentum across Indonesia.

However, Dudy did not specify the exact number of accidents during the Eid transport.

Furthermore, the Transport Minister also said that this success was inseparable from the cooperation of all stakeholders involved in the Eid transport organisation, from the government to transport operators in various sectors.

He also expressed appreciation to the media for helping to disseminate information to the public so that travel during Eid could be carried out more safely and planned.

In addition, the public was also deemed to play an important role by complying with instructions from officers on the ground, thus maintaining the smooth flow of homecoming and return trips throughout the Eid period.

He expressed thanks to all the officers who worked tirelessly during the Eid period to ensure that transport services continued to run optimally across Indonesia.

“All the officers in the field worked without fatigue, without rest, sacrificing time during Eid, leaving their families, working wholeheartedly to serve the public. Thank you for their very high dedication in serving the public,” said the Transport Minister.
