The Ministry of Transport is preparing flight ticket discounts of up to 18 per cent for the 2026 Eid homecoming period (Islamic year 1447 Hijriah).

“The government is providing stimulus for flight tickets with discounts of up to 18 per cent,” said Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi during a coordination meeting on 2026 Eid transport preparations in Mataram on Saturday, accompanied by West Nusa Tenggara Governor Lalu Muhamad Iqbal.

Purwagandhi stated that claims of high ticket prices need to be considered comprehensively, as prices are often influenced by availability and demand dynamics. During the Eid exodus, demand frequently surges relative to aircraft fleet capacity, causing prices to rise sharply.

“This supply and demand situation means there are occasions when tickets appear expensive,” he explained.

The minister assured that the discount provision would be strictly monitored to ensure the public genuinely experiences price reductions during the 2026 Eid homecoming period. The ministry will also monitor public complaints regarding ticket prices to determine whether high costs result from genuine tariff increases or from passengers’ choice of connecting flights rather than direct services.

Purwagandhi noted that in some cases, tickets appear expensive because passengers select transit routes through other cities rather than choosing direct flights, which naturally increases costs.

Beyond flight ticket discounts, the government is also preparing free homecoming transport programmes for land and sea modes, including services to West Nusa Tenggara destinations.
