Transport Minister Dudy Urges Ride-Hailing Platforms to Keep Improving Driver Partner Welfare
Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi is continuing to urge ride-hailing service providers to introduce concrete programmes aimed at improving the welfare of their driver partners.
As part of the government, Dudy said he is more than willing to collaborate with industry players in the transport sector to achieve improved welfare for driver partners.
“The government strongly encourages improvements in driver partner welfare through close collaboration between the government and industry players,” Dudy said in a statement on Friday, 28 August 2026.
He therefore welcomed Gojek’s move to send 70 of its Legend driver partners on umrah pilgrimage on 2 September 2026. He expressed hope that initiatives such as this will inspire more parties to introduce similar programmes that deliver tangible benefits for driver partner welfare.
“We appreciate Gojek’s commitment in presenting the Partner Appreciation Programme, with benefits felt directly by driver partners and their families,” he said.
GoTo CEO Hans Patuwo said the commitment to improving driver partner welfare is in line with Gojek’s belief that the company’s growth has been built together with driver partners since day one.
“Gojek was never built alone. From the very beginning, when Gojek’s services were still call-centre based, these Legend driver partners fought alongside us. They paved the way, built and grew Gojek into what it is today,” Hans said.
Through the departure of 70 Legend driver partners for umrah, Hans stressed that the journey to the Holy Land represents the company’s appreciation for their loyalty and dedication over more than 10 years.
“Going forward, through the Partner Appreciation Programme, we will open up umrah opportunities for more driver partners,” he said.
After more than 15 years as part of Gojek’s journey, 70 Legend driver partners will depart for umrah on 2 September 2026. The departure serves as Gojek’s expression of gratitude for their dedication.
The Legend driver partners joined during Gojek’s early days in Greater Jakarta between 2010 and 2014, when Gojek still operated through a call centre and did not yet have an app. They are the partners who helped pave the way in the beginning and remain active Gojek driver partners to this day.
