Transport Minister Dudy Urges Public to Utilise WFA to Avoid Peak Return Traffic
Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi has urged the public returning from their hometowns after Eid al-Fitr to avoid the peak return traffic periods predicted for 24, 28, and 29 March 2026. He encouraged maximising the government’s Work from Anywhere (WFA) policy, in effect from 25 to 27 March 2026, to ease traffic density, particularly on the Trans-Java Toll Road. “We urge the public returning from their hometowns to schedule their journeys to avoid the peak return traffic on 24, 28, and 29 March 2026. The public can make the most of the WFA period enforced by the government on 25, 26, and 27 March 2026 to prevent vehicle build-up on the Trans-Java Toll Road,” Dudy stated during an inspection of the national one-way traffic engineering at Gerbang Tol Kalikangkung, Semarang, on Tuesday, 24 March 2026. Based on data, the volume of vehicles heading to Jakarta on 24 March 2026 is predicted to reach around 285,000 vehicles. To anticipate this surge, with the discretion of the Indonesian National Police, a national one-way system has been implemented from KM 414 Gerbang Tol Kalikangkung to KM 70 Gerbang Tol Cikampek Utama. “The volume of vehicles heading towards Jakarta shows a significant increase. The implementation of the national one-way traffic engineering is expected to facilitate the public in returning to their home cities,” he said. Additionally, to reduce density on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road section, Rest Area KM 52B has been temporarily closed. The public is advised to utilise alternative rest areas such as KM 42B and KM 19B. Dudy also reminded the importance of monitoring the latest traffic engineering information via the Travoy application or Jasa Marga’s call centre services. Dudy emphasised to logistics transport entrepreneurs the need to comply with the provisions in the Joint Ministerial Decree (SKB) regulating traffic during the 2026 Lebaran Transport period. Restrictions on the operational hours of goods transport vehicles are deemed crucial to maintaining smooth return traffic and road user safety. “This is very important to ensure public mobility during the return traffic period is safe, orderly, and smooth,” he stated. The Transport Minister also appreciated all stakeholders involved, from the National Police, local governments, toll road operators, to Jasa Raharja, for their cooperation in maintaining smooth Eid al-Fitr homecoming and return traffic in 2026. He hopes this synergy will be maintained until the Lebaran Transport period ends.
