Transport Minister Dudy Pushes for KNKT Investigation into Cause of Train Collision in East Bekasi
Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi expressed his concern over the incident involving two train services in the East Bekasi Station area on Monday night, 27 April 2026.
“The Ministry of Transport ensures that evacuation is carried out quickly, prioritising the safety of affected victims,” said Dudy in his statement on Tuesday, 28 April 2026.
He assured that the counting of victims is still ongoing. The Ministry of Transport will continue to coordinate intensively with all relevant parties to ensure the evacuation process runs optimally in line with developments on the ground.
“The Ministry of Transport also supports investigative steps from the KNKT and related parties to delve into the causes of the incident,” he stated.
It is known that previously PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or PT KAI stated that an operational incident had occurred in the East Bekasi Station area, Jakarta Operations Region 1, which impacted train journeys.
KAI’s Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, conveyed that they understand this situation causes concern for customers and families awaiting news.
“Currently, all efforts are focused on the passenger and crew evacuation process, as well as handling victims at the incident site with the utmost priority on safety,” said Anne in his statement on Monday, 27 April 2026.
He also extended an apology to customers. “We extend our apologies for this incident. Our current focus is to ensure all passengers and staff receive the quickest and best possible handling,” said Anne.
“We are also continuing to coordinate with all relevant parties on the ground,” he added.
KAI will continue to provide periodic information updates in line with handling developments at the location.
