Transport Minister Dudy: Passenger Movement During 2026 Eid Transport Reaches 147.55 Million People
Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi stated that the realisation of passenger movement during the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah/2026 CE transport period was recorded at 147.55 million people across all regions of Indonesia, using various modes of transportation.
He conveyed this after the Closing of the Integrated Eid Transport Central Command Post 2026/1447 Hijriah, at the Ministry of Transportation Office, Jakarta.
“For journeys during Eid, the number of people travelling was 147.55 million, representing an increase of 2.53 percent from the survey we conducted, which estimated 143.92 million people,” said Dudy on Monday, 30 March 2026.
He explained that the increase in realised movement reached around 2.53 percent from the survey results, reflecting the high mobility of the public undertaking journeys during the 2026 Eid period.
The survey was previously conducted by the Ministry of Transportation together with the Bandung Institute of Technology Research and Industry Affiliate Institution (LAPI ITB), the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), and the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi), to map the potential movement of the public.
In its implementation, the survey involved around 55,000 respondents from various regions in Indonesia to obtain representative data on public travel patterns ahead of this year’s Eid al-Fitr.
The survey results indicated that 143.92 million people had the potential to travel, but the on-the-ground realisation showed a higher figure than the initial projection.
According to Dudy, the difference between the survey results and the realisation was influenced by various factors and public considerations in deciding to travel during the Eid period.
The various factors will be further evaluated by the Ministry of Transportation to better understand the dynamics of public behaviour in travelling during future Eid moments.
Nevertheless, the Transport Minister continued, the government had previously anticipated the surge in movement with various policies and strengthening of transport services to maintain the smooth flow of Eid homecoming and return journeys.
“This year’s Eid transport organisation generally ran well without any significant disruptions affecting public mobility during that period,” he stated.
