Indonesia’s Transport Minister (Menhub) Dudy Purwagandhi held a preparatory meeting for the 2026 Lebaran mudik (mass exodus) flow in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), warning residents to prioritise safety amid unpredictable weather conditions.

According to Dudy, one of the primary challenges for this year’s mudik is the changeable weather. He noted that the NTB region still faces the potential for rainfall through to April.

“Certainly, we are preparing all forms of land, sea, and air transport. However, we are placing special emphasis on weather-related concerns,” said Dudy following the Lebaran 1447 Hijrah mudik preparation meeting at Bank NTB Syariah in Mataram on Saturday (28 February 2026).

Dudy stated that weather conditions in Indonesia, including NTB, have been inhospitable of late. He asked relevant stakeholders and regional government to work with the government in preparing mitigation measures to address weather challenges during the mudik period.

The Transport Ministry, he continued, will maintain coordination with the Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) to obtain weather information on a regular basis. “We must monitor the weather through April,” he emphasised.

NTB Governor Lalu Muhamad Iqbal outlined several directives from the Transport Ministry regarding preparations for the mudik flow in NTB this year. One of these concerns the completion of road repairs used by transport operators during Lebaran by the third week of Ramadan.

“There were several directives from him regarding accelerating preparations so that by a week before Lebaran everything is ready,” said Iqbal.

“The roads that will be used for Lebaran transport are ready and there will be no further repairs carried out seven days before Lebaran,” he concluded.
