Transport Minister Coordinates Lebaran 2026 Travel Readiness with Jakarta Governor Pramono
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi has coordinated with Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung to discuss Lebaran 2026 transport readiness, ensuring safe and smooth operations.
"Jakarta Province is one of the provinces with the highest population movement nationally," the Transport Minister said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The Minister therefore stressed the need for coordination with regional governments to ensure smooth travel for the public during the Lebaran exodus and return flows.
"The majority of the national mudik journeys originate from West Java and Jakarta, with the most popular national destinations including Central Java, East Java, West Java, and Yogyakarta," he said.
Given the enormous potential for population movement from Jakarta, the Transport Minister requested that the Jakarta Provincial Government provide a number of forms of support to ensure smooth Lebaran 1447 Hijriah/2026 transport operations.
One such measure, Dudy said, is the establishment of Lebaran 2026 Service and Monitoring Posts to ensure fleet readiness (ramp checks) and transport hub preparedness (particularly Type A terminals), as well as health checks for vehicle crew (drivers).
"And the consolidation and preparation of free mudik services," the Minister added.
Additionally, the Transport Minister urged the Jakarta Provincial Government to improve access to and services of feeder transport for travellers.
"We hope the Jakarta Provincial Government can provide easy access for travellers to terminals, stations, ports, and airports, as well as enhance feeder transport services, particularly to free mudik hubs," he said.
Furthermore, traffic surveillance, control, and engineering measures need to be implemented on a conditional basis, including deploying security personnel at congestion and crowd-prone points (monitoring via CCTV), ensuring alternative route readiness, and guaranteeing smooth travel for those making the journey home.
"Providing mudik information and safety awareness campaigns is also important, including road safety education for private vehicle users," the Minister continued.
The Transport Minister also requested the addition of public facilities at the busiest transport hubs, such as food stalls, vehicle repair workshops, and portable toilets to support comfortable travel for the public.
Based on the Lebaran 2026 Transport Movement Potential Survey, projected traffic leaving Jakarta (Cikampek Utama toll gate, Kalihurip Utama toll gate, Cikupa toll gate) during the Lebaran transport period (D-10 to D+11) is expected to reach 3.67 million vehicles. The predicted peak exodus is on Wednesday, 18 March 2026 (D-3), with approximately 259,000 vehicles.
Meanwhile, projected traffic entering Jakarta (Cikampek Utama toll gate, Kalihurip toll gate, Ciawi toll gate, Cikupa toll gate) during D-10 to D+11 of Lebaran is forecast at 3.54 million vehicles, with the predicted peak return flow on Monday, 24 March 2026 (D+3), at approximately 285,000 vehicles.
