Transport Minister Awaits KNKT Investigation on Signalling Issues Related to Argo Bromo Train Collision with KRL
The Argo Bromo Anggrek train collided with a KRL heading towards Cikarang that was stationary at Bekasi Timur Station, resulting in 14 deaths. Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi stated that he is still awaiting the investigation by the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) on whether there were signalling issues. “I think I do not want to conclude this prematurely because there is the KNKT investigating it,” said Dudy during a press conference on Tuesday (28/4/2026). This was stated by Dudy in response to questions about whether the signalling for the Argo Bromo and KRL was not functioning before the accident occurred. The accident happened on Monday (27/4) evening. The total number of fatalities from the accident is 14 people. In addition, there are 84 people injured. The accident occurred when the KRL that was hit was stopped because there was another KRL stuck at a taxi crossing at Bekasi Timur Station. The hard collision caused the women’s carriage at the rear to be torn and penetrated by the Argo Bromo train. The evacuation process for the train accident victims has been completed. All the evacuated victims are female. “100 percent of those we evacuated (victims) are women,” said Head of Basarnas Major General TNI M Syafii. He explained that the evacuation process was completed at 08.00 WIB earlier. All SAR teams have also been withdrawn.
