Transport Minister: Anticipating Extreme Weather During 2026 Lebaran Holiday Transport
Transport Minister stated in Bandarlampung on Tuesday that efforts are continuing to ensure ferry crossings and mobility between Java and Sumatra are well served in both directions, with all services being prepared accordingly.
He said that given extreme weather conditions, all parties must take anticipatory measures, particularly during the 2026 Lebaran Holiday Transport period.
“With regard to extreme weather, we will also coordinate with BMKG to ensure that the Lebaran transport operations run smoothly,” he said.
He explained that if conditions permit, his ministry would consider the option of implementing weather modification to provide better service to the public during ferry crossings.
“We will monitor conditions up to the commencement of the Lebaran Transport command post on 13 March. The police have also begun their operations ahead of 13 March,” he said.
According to the minister, it is also necessary to anticipate high waves in ferry crossing waters.
“There have been recommendations regarding the addition of joint personnel to control congestion and mitigate accident risks during the 2026 Lebaran Holiday Transport period,” he added.
He affirmed that both central and regional governments continue to work towards ensuring smooth public mobility during the 2026 Lebaran Holiday Transport period.
