The Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi, along with West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi, conducted a working visit to Garut Regency. Both inspected the readiness of homecoming routes and distributed compensation assistance to non-motorised vehicle drivers.

The activity was centred at Garut Police Headquarters, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Karangpawitan District, Garut Regency.

The compensation distribution was implemented to ensure smooth traffic flow on national and provincial routes that frequently experience congestion due to traditional vehicle activity during peak Lebaran homecoming season.

West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi explained that during the peak homecoming period, delman and becak operations on main routes would be temporarily suspended. In return, the West Java Provincial Government would provide compensation of Rp200,000 per day, or Rp1.4 million per person over seven days, for each driver.

“Compensation assistance is being provided to 483 traditional vehicles comprising 477 delman and 6 becak that normally operate on national and provincial road sections in the Garut area,” he stated on Saturday (14 March).

According to him, the activity aimed to facilitate and improve the operations of the Transport Ministry and National Police Headquarters, enabling roads with congestion potential to flow smoothly for vehicles.

“We hope this activity provides economic impact through money circulating in the community whilst also bringing happiness to the drivers,” he said.

Meanwhile, Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi expressed appreciation for the West Java Governor’s initiative. The programme not only facilitated migrant mobility but also added value to traditional transport operators.

Garut Regent Abdusy Syakur Amin also affirmed that his region was fully prepared to accommodate the surge in homebound travellers through intensive coordination with Garut Police. All agencies had carried out their functions, from road infrastructure repairs to health facility preparations.

“Homecoming routes are fully passable and alternative routes with potholes have been completed. We have also prepared Integrated Posts at four main locations: Pamengpeuk, Cisewu, Garut City and Malangbong,” he stated.

The weather forecasting agency BMKG predicted that low to moderate rainfall could occur in West Java during the Eid al-Fitr 2026 period.

Additionally, West Java Provincial Government has begun disbursing compensation funds to approximately 3,000 city transport (angkot) drivers, becak and andong operators totalling Rp6.9 billion. Railway line Daop 2 Bandung has 55 critical disaster-prone points, with KAI deploying 150 additional staff and AMUS personnel to secure Lebaran 2026 homecoming traffic flows.
