Transport Minister Absent, DPR Commission V Postpones Meeting on Bekasi Train Accident
Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Commission V, Lasarus, explained that the Transport Minister has sent two letters regarding the reasons for his absence from the meeting scheduled for today. One letter concerns Dudy’s health reasons, and the other is due to the unfinished investigation process by the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT), requesting a rescheduling of the meeting.
“The essence of this letter is that the Ministry of Transport requests a rescheduling of this meeting,” said Lasarus in the Commission V DPR RI meeting room, at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (13/4/2026).
Lasarus continued that Dudy conveyed that the investigation process into the train accident is still ongoing, including the police investigation which is also in progress.
“In connection with the above, we kindly request the Chairman of Commission V DPR RI to reschedule the said working meeting,” said Lasarus, reading from Dudy’s letter.
Lasarus also urged the KNKT to ensure the investigation process does not take too long. In fact, according to him, the instruments supporting the investigation are already available.
“We hope that the KNKT, because of the minister’s reasons (Transport Minister) that the KNKT investigation results are not yet complete, I’m also confused why this investigation is taking so long; this isn’t an exploding aeroplane, all the instruments are there, right?” he stated.
Lasarus then sought approval from the meeting participants on whether to postpone the meeting or proceed, given that Deputy Transport Minister Suntana was present to represent. However, the majority requested a postponement of the session.
“For the sake of the meeting rules, we have to postpone this for now. Friends, we postpone this meeting, I’ll bang the gavel first,” said Lasarus.
