Transport Expert Calls for Height Warning Signs on Jakarta Footbridges After Tendean Collapse

A transport analyst has called for the installation of more signage displaying the height limit of pedestrian overpasses (JPO) to prevent incidents such as the recent collapse of a footbridge in the Tendean area of South Jakarta. Deddy Herlambang, the analyst, stressed that warning signs indicating the minimum clearance height are essential to avoid vehicles striking the structures. He also suggested that if an existing bridge’s height is below the standard 4.2-metre regulation, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government should install signs urging drivers to exercise caution. The Tendean footbridge collapsed on Tuesday after being hit by a truck transporting heavy equipment. Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung confirmed the cause was human error, stating the truck’s load exceeded the bridge’s height capacity, which resulted in severe traffic congestion.
