Jakarta - The Deputy Governor of Jakarta, Rano Karnage, stated that National Transport Day serves as a reminder that safety is the most paramount aspect of transport services and must not merely remain as an administrative procedure.

“It must truly be alive within daily transport services and operations,” he said during the 2026 Jakarta Provincial Level National Transport Day (Harhubnas) Ceremony at the South Plaza of the National Monument, Jakarta, on Tuesday.

Rano noted that this year’s National Transport Day theme is “Connecting Indonesia for a More Advanced Future.”

This theme is also being utilised nationally by the Ministry of Transportation as a reminder of the importance of safety, connectivity, and improving the quality of transport services provided to the public.

“Transportation is not merely about vehicles or infrastructure, but about connecting people with schools, hospitals, workplaces, markets, and economic centres,” he said.

To this end, in the city of Jakarta, public transport must become increasingly decent, attractive, and integrated.

Intermodal integration, according to Rano, is essential so that public journeys become easier, faster, and more efficient from one point to another.

Furthermore, digital transportation must yield tangible benefits. Technology should make transport supervision more effective.

He added that this September has been designated as Transport Safety Month, and this momentum should serve as the starting point for strengthening a culture of safety throughout the year.

“I express my appreciation to all transport personnel working in the field, including officers at terminals, stations, ports, and various transport hubs,” said Rano.
