Transport council members installed

JAKARTA: Governor Sutiyoso installed on Tuesday 15 members of the Jakarta Transportation Council, which will advise the administration on transportation policies.

"The council's main task is to gather public input and pass it along to the administration so this input can serve as a reference in making policy in the transportation sector," Sutiyoso said at City Hall.

The council, Sutiyoso said, will evaluate all of the administration's transportation policies.

The council members come from diverse backgrounds, including bus drivers, transportation businesspeople, public transportation users, non-governmental organization activists and traffic officers.

Activist Tubagus Haryo Karbyanto of the Jakarta Residents Forum, who took part in the process of selecting the council members, said the priority for the council was to evaluate the city's macro transportation system, particularly major transportation projects like the busway. --JP
