Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Parking Management Unit of the DKI Jakarta Transport Department installed official parking signs at three entry points to the Glodok Chinatown area, Tamansari, West Jakarta, on Thursday.

Head of the Parking Implementation Unit for West Jakarta, Wendi Permana, stated that the signs were put up so that visitors to the area would know about the existence of official parking and not choose illegal parking to leave their vehicles.

“Some visitors might not know, or some might already know. That’s why we’re making sure again, we’re installing direction signs to make it clearer. We’ve already installed them at three points today. One at Gloria, one at Asemka, and one at the South Main Gate,” Wendi told reporters at the location on Thursday.

The parking area at the end of Gang Gloria can apparently accommodate up to 200 two-wheeled vehicles and 200 four-wheeled vehicles.

“Gang Gloria goes in about 100 metres, and there’s a large parking yard there. The capacity there can hold 200 four-wheeled vehicles and 200 two-wheeled vehicles,” Wendi explained.

At the location, the parking fee for motorcycles is Rp2,000, while for cars it is Rp5,000. The Parking Management Unit applies limited progressive fees for that parking area.

Wendi said that for motorcycles, the parking fee increases by Rp3,000 for the second hour, and another Rp3,000 for subsequent hours. “So, it stops at Rp9,000, limited to that,” he said.

Previously, the West Jakarta Civil Service Police Unit again cracked down on illegal parking and street vendors in the Glodok Chinatown area, Tamansari, on Thursday.

In the crackdown, officers took firm action in the form of a tyre valve removal operation (OCP) against two-wheeled vehicles parked haphazardly on the sidewalks.

Head of the Security and Order Section of the West Jakarta Civil Service Police, Edison Butar Butar, said the crackdown was carried out in accordance with Regional Regulation Number 8 of 2007 on public order, particularly the use of sidewalks.

“We are enforcing the rule that public facilities, including sidewalks, must be clean for pedestrians. We are striving to create a comfortable society, that’s why we’re conducting this crackdown today,” Edison said.

In the activity, a total of 60 motorcycles parked on the sidewalks were actioned through OCP. In addition, officers also dispersed seven street vendors trading at the location.
