Transport Authority Cracks Down on Illegal Parking at Blok M Square, Requests Management to Install Banners

Efforts to eradicate illegal parking within the Blok M Square area in South Jakarta have become a recurring classic tale. Citing Antara, following a viral video of residents paying for parking twice within the area, local government apparatus through the South Jakarta Transport Agency has once again intervened. In addition to cracking down on at least ten illegal parking attendants in the area on DKI Provincial Government land (PD Pasar Jaya), the Parking Management Unit of the South Jakarta Transport Agency also installed banners prohibiting illegal parking fees at Blok M Square. “We have urged the parking managers to install socialisation banners prohibiting the payment of parking fees to illegal parking attendants,” said the Head of the South Jakarta Transport Agency, Bernad Oktavianus Pasaribu, on Wednesday (1/4) as quoted from Antara. Bernad stated that in the crackdown, they collaborated with the Civil Service Police Unit and the Parking Management Unit of the South Jakarta Transport Agency to conduct monitoring and supervision aimed at preventing illegal parking practices. Therefore, the South Jakarta Administrative City Parking Implementation Unit has installed eight banners prohibiting illegal parking collections scattered throughout the Blok M Square area. “Best Parking has followed up on the instructions by installing socialisation banners prohibiting visitors from paying parking fees to illegal parking attendants,” he said. The authority has also apprehended 10 illegal parking attendants (jukir) in the Blok M Square area following the viral video. “There are 10 illegal parking attendants who have been recorded,” he said. Bernad mentioned that the crackdown was carried out on Tuesday afternoon (31/3) at 17:00 WIB. In the operation, they collaborated with the Civil Service Police Unit and the Parking Management Unit of Blok M Square. A total of 10 illegal parking attendants were rounded up and asked to sign statements promising not to engage in illegal collections again. The ten individuals are initialled MU, S, R, MRB, SA, MI, JS, D, IN, and AF. Meanwhile, the Head of the South Jakarta Civil Service Police Unit, Nanto Dwi Subekti, stated that this enforcement is a follow-up to public complaints regarding double parking fee practices in the area. “They collect parking money, even though parking is only charged once officially using a ticket,” said Nanto. The ten apprehended illegal parking attendants were given sanctions in the form of examination reports (BAP) by the Parking Management Unit of the Transport Agency. “If they repeat the offence, they will face heavier sanctions,” he said. In addition to rounding up illegal parking attendants, Nanto continued, officers also cracked down on seven street vendors (PKL) trading outside designated spots. Therefore, visitors to Blok M Square are urged to pay for parking only once at the exit and to park vehicles in the official areas provided by the area managers in partnership between the provincial government and the private sector.
