Transport Agency Plans to Implement Intelligent Transport System on TransJatim
The East Java Transportation Agency (Dishub Jatim) plans to implement an Intelligent Transport System (ITS) on the TransJatim service to improve travel efficiency and the quality of public transport services. “I want one corridor to have ITS applied, including coordinated junctions and priority for buses,” said Head of Dishub Jatim Nyono in Surabaya on Sunday. According to him, the ITS implementation will begin with a study on TransJatim Corridor I, which has a high passenger load factor. The system will utilise sensor technology at road junctions so that traffic light durations can adjust to real-time vehicle density conditions. Additionally, Dishub Jatim is preparing to implement bus priority for TransJatim buses so that mass transit vehicles receive smooth passage when approaching junctions. Nyono explained that the concept has been widely applied in various countries as part of modern public transport development. The ITS implementation will also be combined with a road safety programme that includes the provision of complete traffic safety facilities along the service corridor. Besides TransJatim Corridor I, a similar concept is also planned for the Malang area as part of technology-based urban transport development. Dishub Jatim is currently surveying the available facilities and infrastructure in these corridors before implementation takes place. According to Nyono, the realisation of the programme depends on regional government budget support, but technical studies have begun to be prepared to accelerate the application of the intelligent transport system in East Java.
