TransNusa airline plans to raise aircraft ticket prices by 10-14% starting April 2026. “The average increase (not all routes are the same) is expected to range from 10-14%,” said TransNusa President Director Bayu Sutanto when contacted by Kompas.com on Tuesday (7/4/2026). Bayu explained that this ticket price hike aligns with Ministerial Decree (KM) Number 83 of 2026, regarding the adjustment of additional fuel costs (fuel surcharge) by 38% for jet and non-jet aircraft, effective from 6 April 2026. The company has anticipated the high global jet fuel prices since March 2026, following the conflict between the United States and Israel with Iran. “Since the war broke out and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, along with the drastic rise in crude oil prices, we have anticipated it. Fortunately, jet fuel prices for the period 1-31 March did not see a drastic increase,” said Bayu. “However, it is expected to rise for the period 1-30 April,” he added. Currently, TransNusa serves domestic and international routes from and to Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Morowali, Ambon, Bali, Singkawang, Lombok, Malaysia, Singapore, and China. Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi stated that this policy is taken in line with the rise in jet fuel prices triggered by global geopolitical dynamics, including conflicts in the Middle East. “In setting the fuel surcharge, we have coordinated with all airlines operating in Indonesia, particularly domestic ones. Thus, the increase can be set at 38%,” said Dudy during a press conference at the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy on Monday (6/4/2026), quoted on Tuesday (7/4/2026). “To maintain ticket price increases, the government provides government-borne VAT of 11% for domestic economy class tickets,” said Airlangga, as quoted by Kompas.com. The government has prepared a subsidy of around Rp 1.3 trillion per month for this policy. If implemented for two months, the total budget allocated will reach Rp 2.6 trillion. In the previous year, said Airlangga, import duty receipts from aircraft spare parts amounted to around Rp 500 billion. With this policy, the government hopes to increase the competitiveness of the aircraft maintenance and repair industry, covering maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO), with potential economic activity of around Rp 700 billion per year. The government emphasises that this series of policies is an effort to maintain a balance between the sustainability of the aviation industry and the affordability of ticket prices for the public amid global pressures.
