Transmission Pipe Leak Threatens Clean Water Supply in 5 Districts of Karangasem
Five districts in Karangasem are at risk of difficulties in obtaining clean water. The cause is a leak in the transmission pipe of the Regional Task Implementation Unit (UPTD) Telaga Waja in Duda Timur Village, Selat District, which occurred on Monday (30/3/2026). Relevant parties are currently working to carry out repairs.
The Director of Perumda Tirta Tohlangkir, I Komang Haryadi Parwata, stated that the five districts likely to be impacted by the transmission pipe leak are Karangasem, Bebandem, Manggis, Abang, and Kubu Districts.
“The cause of the leak may be due to high water pressure, but we have coordinated with the Telaga Waja UPTD to repair it as soon as possible,” said Parwata on Monday (30/3/2026).
Due to the service disruption in the five districts, Parwata has instructed each unit head to inform all customers to store reserve water in case it is still flowing.
“We cannot confirm when the repairs will be completed, but we have asked the Telaga Waja party to do it as quickly as possible because it is unfortunate for customers if they go without water for too long,” said Parwata.
During the repair process, the Karangasem regional public water supply company (PDAM) is also ready to deliver clean water to residents’ homes if requested. However, this effort will certainly not be optimal in meeting customers’ needs, considering there are areas that cannot be reached by tanker trucks.
“But we will endeavour to the maximum extent possible so that customers do not face issues with cooking or other activities due to the lack of flowing water from the impact of this leak,” said Parwata.
