Transmigration Village Tourism Promoted as New Economic Driver
The government is promoting the development of tourism villages in transmigration areas as a driving force for the local economy. Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), stressed the importance of integrating infrastructure and connectivity to support the tourism sector. According to him, physical and digital infrastructure and connectivity development can create tourism destinations that significantly impact the local community’s economy. Meanwhile, the Minister of Transmigration, M. Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara, stated that his ministry is ready to support the development of tourism villages in transmigration areas through collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism. “We from the Ministry of Transmigration are ready to support and actively collaborate with the Ministry of Tourism to develop the local potentials in transmigration areas, especially tourism villages,” said Iftitah. He added that many villages in transmigration areas have great potential for development. Deputy Minister of Tourism Ni Luh Puspa revealed that the tourism sector is currently supported by more than 2,000 coastal villages developing marine tourism potential, including in transmigration areas. “Many of our tourism villages are located in transmigration regions. We need stronger collaboration to mobilise and redevelop Indonesia’s nature-based tourism,” said Ni Luh. According to Ni Luh, developing tourism villages requires adequate infrastructure support to enhance the attractiveness and accessibility of destinations. Collaboration between the Ministry of Transmigration and the Ministry of Tourism is expected to accelerate the transformation of transmigration villages into flagship tourism destinations while improving local community welfare.
