Transmigration target set

SEMARANG, Central Java: Head of the provincial office of the Ministry of Transmigration Dyah Paramawartiningsih said that it planned to relocate 12,050 families to outlying islands during the 1998/1999 financial year.

Dyah expressed confidence that the target could be reached if selected families were given proper guidance and fully understood the program and the opportunities it presented for families to improve their welfare.

Central Java was quite successful in meeting its transmigration target in the last financial year. A total of 8,192 from an initial target of 8,207 families were relocated, Antara reported.

Almost all migrants are sent to locations in the eastern part of Indonesia.
