Minister of Transmigration M. Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara has stated the importance of boosting the economy of transmigration areas as a source of regional economic growth and a measure to improve the welfare of transmigrant communities. Several transmigration areas possess economic potential ranging from agriculture and tourism to mining and the oil and gas sector. Through the national transmigration transformation, the government is not only relocating populations but also addressing land issues, building supporting infrastructure, and deploying thousands of superior human resources to support the residents’ economy. To address budget efficiency, the Ministry of Transmigration is collaborating with relevant ministries and agencies to develop transmigration areas in the agriculture, oil and gas, mining, and tourism sectors. The ministry is also inviting investors to explore the economic potential of prospective regions for development, such as Raja Ampat in West Papua and Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara. The Minister further emphasised that the development of transmigration areas must contribute to Indonesia’s economic growth target of 8%, with these areas being encouraged to become industrial and downstream processing zones to improve community welfare and boost the national economy.
