Transmigration Programme to Support Industrialisation and Downstreaming for 8% Economic Growth

The Indonesian Minister of Transmigration, M. Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara, stated the importance of boosting the economy within transmigration areas as a source of regional economic growth and a step towards increasing the welfare of transmigration communities.

A number of transmigration areas possess economic potential ranging from agriculture and tourism to mining and the oil and gas sectors. Therefore, through the national transmigration transformation, the government is not merely relocating populations but also addressing land issues, developing supporting infrastructure, and deploying thousands of high-quality human resources to support local economies.

To address budget efficiency challenges, the Ministry of Transmigration is collaborating with relevant Ministries and Agencies to develop transmigration areas across the agricultural, oil and gas, mining, and tourism sectors. Furthermore, the Ministry is inviting investors to explore the economic potential of promising regions, such as Raja Ampat in West Papua and Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara.

The Minister of Transmigration continues to ensure that the development of transmigration areas can contribute to Indonesia’s economic growth towards the 8% target. Transmigration areas are being encouraged to become industrial and downstreaming zones, which would not only increase community welfare but also bolster the national economy.
