Transmigration Programme Creates 116 Regencies and Cities, Says Deputy Minister

Deputy Minister for Transmigration Viva Yoga Mauladi has stated that the national transmigration programme has contributed to the establishment of 116 regencies and cities across Indonesia as part of regional development efforts since the government first implemented the scheme. Speaking during a briefing for the 2026 Patriot Expedition Team in Bogor, West Java, on Sunday, he noted that the programme has also produced 1,567 definitive villages, 466 districts, and three provincial capitals. The three provinces that emerged from transmigration development areas are North Kalimantan, West Sulawesi, and South Papua. According to Viva Yoga, transmigration not only relocates populations but also opens up previously isolated areas, transforming them into centres of economic, social, and cultural activity. He added that this progress demonstrates the programme’s ability to create new economic growth hubs while improving community welfare across various regions. The Deputy Minister further highlighted that the programme’s success is evident in the number of transmigrant descendants now holding strategic positions, including regional heads, legislators, and government officials.
