DENPASAR, Bali: Local interest in participating in the state-
sponsored transmigration program has subsided after residents
found a major spring and successful reforestation program.

"Nusa Penida sub-district residents transmigrating to other
provinces have subsided because of successful development
programs," Bali's governor Ida Bagus Oka said during his two-day
visit to the region.

Klungkung regent Ida Bagus Oka (same name) said that his
office targeted to resettle 250 families in the fiscal 1994-1995,
140 of those have been moved as of January, he said.

He said that three families were moved to East Timor, 162
families to South Sumatra, 20 families to Sulawesi, and 15
families to Bengkulu. The residents were from the regencies of
Banjarangkan, Klungkung, and Nusa Penida.(imn)
