Transmigration Ministry Allocates Rp226 Billion for Patriot Transmigration Programme

The Ministry of Transmigration (Kementrans) has allocated a budget of Rp226 billion, representing 35 percent of the ministry’s total budget, for the Patriot Transmigration programme in 2026. Minister of Transmigration Muhammad Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara stated that the funds are intended to support the transformation of transmigration areas through research, mentoring, and the application of innovations by teams from universities. “So the total budget is Rp226 billion or 35 percent of the Ministry of Transmigration’s budget,” Iftitah said after a briefing for the Patriot Expedition 2026 team in Jakarta on Wednesday. He explained that the remaining 65 percent of the ministry’s budget is directed towards the revitalisation of transmigration areas, including resolving overlapping land issues and improving road access and electricity. According to Iftitah, this budget division reflects the ministry’s two main agendas: resolving long-standing issues through revitalisation and developing new economic potential through transformation. “Around 65 percent is allocated for revitalisation. The 35 percent is for transformation, and that takes the form of the Patriot Transmigration programme,” he stated. Iftitah noted that each team can receive direct incentives of up to Rp200 million to run programmes designed according to the needs and potential of their assigned areas. This limit was set to ensure faster disbursement while maintaining accountability, following consultations with the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP), the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK), and the Ministry of Finance. “So that it is accountable, the nature of the assistance, the incentive per team, is no more than Rp200 million,” he disclosed. He added that multiple teams operating in one area can collaborate on programmes and funding, meaning the total intervention received by a single area could reach billions of rupiah. However, he stressed that the development of transmigration areas cannot rely solely on the State Budget (APBN). The ministry is encouraging teams to design financing models that combine government budgets, partnerships with businesses, and pure private investment. Iftitah noted that transmigration areas possess assets in the form of land and labour, but still require support in science and technology, capital, and guaranteed buyers for the community’s produce. “The strength of transmigration is having land and labour. We just need science and technology, business capital, and offtakers,” he said. The ability to map superior commodities, supply chains, potential investors, and markets is considered crucial so that the Patriot Team’s research can develop into sustainable economic activities. The Minister expressed hope that participants would not stop at compiling reports, but would use their knowledge to connect the area’s potential with appropriate sources of financing and business partners. The 2026 Patriot Expedition Team involves 1,476 participants who will be stationed in 53 transmigration areas for four months to conduct research, map potential, and provide community assistance.
